WynterCon 2017 🏳️‍🌈

Whether you’re an ewok, elf, wizard or dragon, it doesn’t matter, as whatever world you are from, you are welcome in ours.

The award-winning Wyntercon is returning to Eastbourne this October (7-8) and will be welcoming everyone, regardless of their background. Based in Prince’s Park for the first time, the sci-fi extravaganza will be playing host to characters and actors from some our favourite films and TV shows, including Harry Potter, Primeval, Game of Thrones and for those of us of a certain age, the cult children’s TV programme, Knightmare.

There promises to be something for everyone, from a replica Jabba the Hutt photoset, to a variety of creative workshops for children and a chance to meet a real-life Harry Potter Death Eater, as well as a Cosplay area and free to enter competition, dinosaurs, community gaming, replica Labyrinth props and local authors/artists and traders.

Also joining the two-day event, is Bourne Out LGBT, who recently held their first Pride event in Eastbourne. They’ll be having a stand at Wyntercon, to offer support and advice to anyone struggling with their sexuality.

Betty ‘Scottie’ Gallacher from Bourne Out said, “We were delighted to be welcomed into Wyntercon with open arms. At Bourne Out, we know how hard some people find it to be ‘different’ to what can be perceived as the norm. So, it’s vitally important that everyone can come together and enjoy an event like Wyntercon, without being judged. After the success of our Pride event, it’s fantastic to see Eastbourne putting on more diverse events.”

It’s not just visitors who rate Wyntercon as a must-see event. Last year, Wyntercon was awarded the Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure Award 2016 by the local business community, and earlier this year, Wyntercon was presented with the Equality and Inclusion Embrace Award.

Commenting on why Wyntercon was chosen for the accolade, Embrace East Sussex founder, Rebecca Whippy said, “We were delighted to be able to award the Embrace Award for Equality and Inclusion to Wyntercon this year. We attended their event for the first time last year and were struck with how laid back everyone was and how our Embrace families were put at their ease. Embrace are excited to be attending again this year and hopeful that many of our families will attend too! The event is great fun for the adults and the kids and very inclusive.”

12 Tips To Putting On A Gay Pride Event 🏳️‍🌈

So I thought I would write a little piece about the ups and downs and pitfalls of organising a Gay pride event. 

I doubted writing this piece for a while as I know it will cause uproar and probably outrage but I feel like I need to write something to get these feelings out. 

No one really tells you what goes into putting on an event what ever the scale and size of it.

It's our towns first event in 20yrs 

I look back now over the last 7 months and reflect on all the struggles we have had within the Gay community alone. 

The local community, local councils 

and emergency services have been very supportive of the event and want the event to take place but we have come up with more resilience from within our own community it is a very small community here in my town but it is getting bigger as the years have gone on. 

So I thought I would put together a checklist of 12 points to organising any type of event so someone in the future who thinks of putting an event on may have an idea of what to expect 

1. Build a strong team of more than 5 people to share workloads, depending on size of event and have plenty of meetings to cross reference where everyone is 

Set up a WhatsApp group

Set up a Facebook Chat 

2. Take the time and plan well in advance 

3. Seek guidance and advice from other Pride events or the UKPON 

4. Apply for all licences and permits within timeframes

5. Include all emergency services in plans and details, get contact details for all chiefs or commanders of police, fire, ambulance

6. Use online networks & websites to get details of local charities & organisations that might like to get involved.

7. Set up online accounts, social medias & websites before launching advent, get dates, times and addresses confirmed before going live 

Build a database of contact details for everyone. 

8. If you have budget get artwork, logos and advertising done well in advance 

9. Secure all bookings of toilet hire, stage hire, stalls, security, music acts, and any other main essentials with online form and deposits. 

10. Build a strong base of volunteers that will help on the day these are the most important people that will be helping on the day to make your event a success 

11. Keep people informed and keep in contact with everyone whether it’s stall holders, security teams, volunteers, stage crew basically anyone that is going to be involved 

12. Give your self 4 weeks before the date of event to have everything done signed and in place so the last few weeks aren't a crazy mess 

Lastly 

enjoy the event and if anything comes up deal with it calmly and quickly. 

And remember there are plenty of people out their to ask for help and advice and guidance 

From my personal experience I have learned that try not to let people’s opinions and comments reflect on the importance of putting on any type of event as you are going to criticism and hate and negativity especially from the gay community in small towns, 

I think in bigger towns and city’s that have gay scenes and community it’s not as bad but I wish anyone the best of luck in putting on their event and remember if you need any advice of help just ask.

What Is Love 2017🏳️‍🌈

So 

I wrote a post last year 

at the start of my blog

I wrote the post 3 years ago this October but only published it last year 

I have written hundreds of posts, 

Poems, & stories which I have never took the time to actually sit down and put them all into digital form as I am to lazy to do it 

I published a free book on iTunes 

With 10 small stories/poems and it has had over 4,000 downloads 

So you think this would spur me on 

but it hasn't 

I have just finished watching a web series called hunting season season 2 

and the last episode 

really got me thinking about life in general 

Everyone in the 90s dreamed of being 

Carrie from Sex and city and write a blog that people will follow but I never realised it till now a year ago I said I was going to start writing more posts and putting them online and I just haven't 

I haven't made a decent youtube video in a long time I just haven't felt creative 

Which for me is a bad thing 

But then I ask myself why I haven't 

Is it cause I'm sad .......... maybe 

Is it cause I'm lonely ...... maybe 

Have I been waiting to find them 

one and not been looking in the right places ....... maybe 

Had casual sex and dating apps killing my passion for finding love ??? 

I think it might be 

We live in an age for me as a gay man 

To open an app and hook up with people at a few clicks of some buttons 

Some empty words 

A few sexual gestures 

And 20 minutes later your hooking up with a random stranger 

Where is the romance in that !!! 

And I've been doing it for too many years 

So today is the day 

I delete all the apps and start moving 

Myself forward 

Get out of this funk and do something worth while 

Let it be know 

The words and posts that will start to appear will be not for the faint hearted 

It's not going to be seedy or crude but I need to get all the bad stuff out from my past 

So I can look forward to my future 

Cause lets face it 

I ain't getting any younger 

And with my family history 

I'm gonna be bald by the time I'm 40 

So here we go 

No holds barred 

Unfiltered and ready to dish the dirt 

So 1 year ago I wrote 

What is L-O-V-E 

and to date it is one of my most viewed blog posts 

And in the last year I learnt nothing so 

We're going back to the old school

The Time Is Now 🏳️‍🌈

The time is now

That's it the time is now
I have 5 months to my 30th bday and I'm not going to be the same person as I am now
the drinking
the smoking
the being single
the unhealthy ness
in my whole life has to end
 I have 5 months which is a good enough time scale to sort myself out and be in a good place
for when the big day comes
 I also am going to finish
how to play guitar
as its something
I have been pitting of for a long time
I have put my song writing behind me for so long and it's something
I feel passionate about
I can't sing for shit
 but like my writing I feel so much better when I get these thoughts out of my head and onto paper !!
So let it be said from this day
it is a whole new me
a whole new chapter to write about and a purpose in my life !!
So stayed tuned onto this blog and come with me on my journey
And let's see if there really is a path to happiness

I tend not to wear my heart on my sleeve as it hasn't got me very far in the past I try to fit in to so many different stereotypes and I seem to fit none of them

#StepheninUSA Day 3

So day 3 of the trip 

We arrived at James at about 10am 

We went to Washington, D.C. For the day and saw all the sights 

The first stop was the important one 

We went to the White House 

We saw it from the front fist and let's just say it wasn't very impressive 

As it literally just looks like a house 

But as we walked around the building you see the 

White House from he back then that's when you see the lawns and 

The Oval Office and the fountain 

And the legendary balcony which you see in all the films 

So make sure you see it from the back 

After the White House 

We walked through DC to the Washington monument 

Then to the Abraham Lincoln memorial 

The WWII MEMORIAL 

the Korean war memorial 

We then headed back into the city of Washington 

And found a nice little bar where we had a little rest and a drink 

before heading back to Baltimore where we was going out for dinner 

At the inner harbour 

The meal was really nice and we 

Went round some bars and had some drinks then got back to James at 2am 

I stayed up a few hours and edited some videos 

Ready to go up on the channel
